Electric Forest (aka Eforest or Forest) is rapidly approaching, and there is much to be excited about. The festival starts on June 20th in Rothbury, Michigan, and ends on the 23rd. EForest is known for its loyal fanbase that returns year after year to enjoy the unique location, interactive art exhibits, carefully cultivated community, multifaceted adventure, and experience-oriented approach from the festival organizers.
Electric Forest 2024 Lineup
Electric Forest is, first and foremost, an incredible showcase for electronic music as a whole; it is also a showcase for what is possible to achieve when true fans of the music focus on creating an all-encompassing and memorable weekend adventure.
This year, the Electric Forest 2024 lineup is stacked - with so much depth, you could overlook the headliners and still be easily convinced to plan your trip to Michigan. However, to get you excited for the big weekend, I've put together a snapshot of what you can expect from the headliners on each day - stay tuned for Part Two of this series, where we'll dive further into the lineup and explore what the rest of the lineup has in store for the weekend. In the meantime, let's check out their names at the top:
DUBSTEP & BASS
Subtronics
Subtronics is taking the stage on Saturday; he is returning to Forest on the heels of his bombastic 2022 set, which set the bass music world on fire. Subtronics has since released a follow-up album to that which he performed in 2022, titled ANTIFRACTALS, and embarked on a massive tour. He is a significant force in Dubstep, thanks to his heavy bass blends, intricate soundscapes, and innovative rhythms.
LSZee (CloZee + LSDream)
Have you ever had a bad day? Have you felt a little down, or that life is pushing against you? Maybe you should check out LSZee, the collaborative project from CloZee and LSDream, two artists renowned for their emotionally captivating sound design. Their creative bond will surely result in an epic display of uplifting wubz and filthy dubz. CloZee has performed at Electric Forest in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and is eager to return alongside LSDream, who also performed in 2016. You'll want to catch this special LSZee set to experience firsthand the unpredictable energy, immersive experience, innovative collaborations, and diverse musical palette of this star-powered duo.
Black Tiger Sex Machine (BTSM, not BDSM)
BTSM is an eclectic group that prides itself on creating a ritualistic experience at every show. Their top-shelf visuals, alongside incredible sound production, bring out animalistic emotional reactions. Epic moments compound on each other to create epic memories. If you're searching for a heavy but heartfelt dystopian experience, look no further than Black Tiger Sex Machine and their cinematic set.
Excision
Candian icon Jeff Abel is a legend of Dubstep. Bringing bass music to the forefront of the electronic genre over the past two decades, he has made strides in the music industry many could only dream of and made it look easy. Curator, frontrunner, and driving force behind Lost Lands Music Festival (aka Dubstep Disneyland), Excision is known to bring the hardest kicks, sickest beats, and wackiest production to the table anywhere he goes. If you are interested in getting into dubstep music or haven't caught an Excision set yet, this is your chance to see the bar for true excellence.
Pretty Lights
Pretty Lights is beloved by his avid fan base, known for his eclectic sets and funkadelic mixes. Whenever Pretty Lights hits the stage, you know an especially curated production is on its way right into your eye holes. Get ready to be bop about and feel that glimmer of nostalgia as you enjoy some Pretty Lights alongside some pretty cool lights!
Seven Lions
One of the horsemen of melodic dubstep, Seven Lions is atop the pinnacle of emotionally driven bass music. His signature style, which integrates deeply connective lyricism with epic cascades of bass is nothing short of a spectacle - not to mention he also knows how to drop heat just as well!
Gigantic NGHTMRE
Big Gigantic and NGHTMRE are two of the biggest names in Dubstep and Bass Music from the 2010s. Gigantic NGHTMRE is a collaborative effort that highlights the versatility and creativity of each project, bringing all the hype and good vibes each has to offer. You can expect hard-hitting bass alongside funkadelic breaks, making this one of the most unique names on the lineup. You can catch Gigantic NGHTMRE at the festival on Sunday!
HOUSE, TECHNO, & TRANCE
Everything Always (John Summit x Dom Dolla)
Two of the most iconic names in tech house collide to create an epic collaborative project, emphasizing infectious rhythms and pounding basslines. Everything Always promises to showcase the cutting edge of tech-house and is a must-see for fans of the genre or those looking to get hyped up to hypnotic grooves. Summit also lights things up solo on Saturday night so you can double down on your house fix for the weekend.
Knock2
Breakout house star Knock2 is slated to perform at Electric Forest on Thursday's opening day. Knock2 is most known for his high-energy bass sound and dynamic performances; his recent festival slots at EDC Vegas, Beyond Wonderland, Hard Summer, and Nocturnal Wonderland have vastly grown his audience and showcased his skills. I enjoyed catching his set last Summer at Breakaway Boston and couldn't have been more thrilled. When Knock2 hits the stage, you know the energy will raise the roof.
Ben Böhmer
Ben Böhmer, the Berlin-based melodic bass DJ, will take the stage at Forest on Thursday. He is known for his melodic and emotive grooves that create an atmosphere rich in emotions and energy. His melodically rich style will create a peaceful wash of color among the soundscape of the forest and will undoubtedly leave you feeling one with the trees.
Charlotte De Witte
Belgian superstar Charlotte De Witte is hitting the Electric Forest stage for the first time this year. She is a dominant force in the UK scene and has made waves worldwide with her powerful sets that take a minimalist approach, heavily influenced by European and Detroit Techno. She is a trailblazer in electronic music, and her success speaks volumes for the heavily underrepresented female talent in the electronic music industry. She is known for her solo career, but she is also a driving force behind KNTXT events, which promotes gender representation through its carefully curated lineups. Charlotte is a leader in the techno world, so you can expect hypnotic vibes and good times any time she hits the stage!
JAM
The Disco Biscuits
Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, The Disco Biscuits are a big deal in the world of Jam. They are known for their eclectic fusion of electronic and Jam elements and their very own music festival, Camp Bisco, which ran from 1999-2021, heavily featuring the groovy group with upwards of six sets some years. The Disco Biscuits are a wild good time; if you're hunting for a smile and some laid-back fun, look no further than the Biscuits!
The String Cheese Incident
The String Cheese Incident, an eccentric Jam band, is an Electric Forest music festival legend. They have played eleven separate years for the fest, often performing multiple sets. You might be thinking, "That's a lot of years...have they ever not played at EF??" That's because they, indeed, have played every single year the festival has operated. That begs the question, does going to Forest even count if you didn't find out what happened during The String Cheese Incident?
Umphrey's McGee
Do you like genre-blending, mind-boggling, evolutionary, and expertly improvised Jam music? Great! Then Umphrey's McGee is just what you're looking for! Their dedicated fan base is a testament to their incredible live performances and dynamic production value. They hit on elements of Rock, Jazz, Metal, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Electronic, and more to create their one-of-a-kind sound - carve out some time to stop in and check out this crazy group of rockers!
HIP HOP & POP
Ludacris
The Electric Forest lineup is known for featuring electronic and Jam artists, but Ludacris, a prominent hip-hop star, is a refreshing departure from the typical lineup. As many fans refer to him, Luda is known for his energetic and witty rap style and notable success as an actor in the Fast & Furious series. Ludacris stands out from other rappers and hip-hop icons through his lyricism and energy, which will be evident during his set. If you're looking to change things up and get a taste of some hype, Ludacris' set will be a stop during your weekend in the forest.
Nelly Furtado
Nelly Furtado is a pop icon who achieved stardom in the 2000s with numerous hit singles and several successful albums, including "Whoa, Nelly!" and "Loose." She earned a Grammy award for her incredible vocal performance on "I'm Like a Bird," which catapulted her rise through the charts. You can catch Nelly on Thursday at the festival; she'll supply chill vibes and good times galore.
